A series of graphs documenting the security situation in Afghanistan have been circulated on Dr. Barnett Rubin's Afghanistan distribution list.
- Security incidents by week - 2007
- Security incidents by type - 2007
- Security incidents by region - 2007
- Security incidents by province - 2007
- Successful IED attacks vs. failed attempts
These data indicate that violence remains concentrated in the south and east, and has declined during the winter months as weather conditions have worsened.
UPDATE (Feb. 18): Acronyms Key (c/o Long War Journal): anti-government forces = AGE, IED = improvised explosive devices, VBIED = vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices, SVBIED = suicide vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices, BBIED = body-borne improvised explosive device, CPX = complex attack, SAF = small-arms fire, RPG = rocket propelled grenade.
