EXCERPT: "Afghanistan has the highest rate of 'violence against women' cases in the world such that during the last six months more than 2000 cases of violence have been registered throughout the country. It is said that most cases of violence against women are not reported due to the traditional and cultural complexities in Afghanistan; these cases include physical torture, murder, marital exchange and acts of suicide under extreme psychological pressure. According to the ministry of Women’s Affairs, more than 57 percent of Afghan girls are married before their legal age. It is estimated that 99 percent of cases of family violence remain unreported that adds to the complication of the matter."
