'NATO Wants Transit Agreement For Moving Cargo To Afghanistan', The News, 2 December 2008
EXCERPT: "Nato Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer has said that they wanted to deepen their political dialogue with Islamabad to arrive at a transit agreement for moving the Nato cargo to Afghanistan. In an exclusive meeting with a group of Pakistani journalists in his office at the Nato headquarters, days before his visit to Pakistan, Scheffer said: 'The deepening of a political dialogue with Pakistan is in our interest and I am impressed by the pro-activism of President Asif Ali Zardari in fighting the forces who are trying to destabilise both Pakistan and Afghanistan. We have great common interest in deepening both political and military dialogue.' He said that he would be taking a very clear message to Islamabad. 'The message from Nato will be that we will be certainly deepening and strengthening our dialogue. Given the situation, especially Pakistan's situation, we want to see robust activity between Pakistan, Afghanistan and Isaf on the border areas. This is the key message,' he added."
